Why Bass & Bligh?

All our stock is 100% official UK import (as nothing is made on home soil anymore).

Established in Leeds over 60 years ago. Started on Leeds Bridge reconditioning and selling ex-government optical instruments, binoculars and telescopes from famous war time suppliers such as Barr and Stroud, Ross and Taylor Hobson (The latter being made in Leeds). They soon established a reputation for quality service which stood them in good stead as supplies of the post war models started at arrive. Still specialising in binoculars and telescopes their mail order service and good name saw them sending optical instruments all over the country resulting in Bligh Now established as the Yorkshire Birdwatchers favourite retailer.

The company was purchased about 25 years ago by Richards (Wakefield) a well known photographic retailer who contiuned to trade from the premises in Lower Brigate as Bass & Bligh. 12 years ago it was decided to relocate our business to new premises in Harrogate, a lovely Yorkshire spa town that recieves lots of visitors, many of whom travel just to visit our shop. With our huge selection of the finest binoculars and telescopes. We now specialise also in digital cameras and offer a service second to none, competitive prices and a huge range, there is also a superb selection of used equipment on view.
